The CrossFit Open is a personal test of fitness. You get to measure your fitness this year against last year, or set your benchmark of fitness for next year’s comparison. Whether you’ve been doing CrossFit for 2 weeks, 2 months, or 2 years, the CrossFit Open IS for you!
The first CrossFit Open was in 2011 and began when my son was about 10 weeks old. I signed up because it didn’t matter how I did compared to the world, or the region, or even my own gym. I signed up so I could be part of the GLOBAL CrossFit community for those weeks of the Open. For the past 5 years I have witnessed some spectacular moments – deadlift PRs, snatch PRs, first muscle-ups, and so many more.
I opened CrossFit Chantilly in the summer of 2012 and we hosted the Open in 2013. Each of the 3 years we’ve hosted the Open I’ve opened our gym to visitors – both drop-ins and garage gym athletes who didn’t have the right or enough equipment to participate in the Open in their garage affiliates. It is so rewarding to meet athletes who want to get their Open workout complete and recorded while traveling away from home.
I want every CFCer to seriously consider signing up for the CrossFit Open. It might seem intimidating but your coaches and the the veteran CrossFit athletes around you are here supporting you. All of the CrossFit Open workouts will be the WOD at CFC on Fridays for the 5 week of the Open. You can also complete the workout on Saturdays if you can find someone to count your reps for you.
